London Travelcards & Oyster cards
When you get to London, you will need an Oyster card or a Travelcard to get around. These will help you to move quickly, easily and affordably around London's public transport network. The school is located in the central area of London, zone 1. Click here for a Zone Map of London
Oyster card and app
An Oyster card is a smartcard which holds (1) ‘pay as you go’ credit or (2) an electronic Travelcard (weekly or monthly) or (3) an electronic bus pass.
A refundable deposit of £5 is charged when you get an Oyster card.
You can also download a free app that lets you manage your Oyster cards on the go.

A Visitor Oyster Card
A Visitor Oyster card is a smartcard that just comes pre-loaded with money for ‘pay as you go’ travel. The card costs £3 (non-refundable) and you can choose how much credit to add to your card: £10, £15, £20, £30, £40, £50.
A Visitor Oyster card can be purchased before arrival in England.
You cannot buy a Visitor Oyster card when you arrive in London.
You cannot load a Travelcard onto a Visitor Oyster card. If you need to travel every day an Oyster card (with a Travelcard loaded) will probably be cheaper.

Student Oyster Photocard
A student who studies a minimum of 14 weeks at the Victoria School of English can apply for an Oyster student card. With a valid Student Oyster photocard, you can buy Travelcards and Bus Passes at 30% off the normal adult rate. We will provide you with a Student Oyster card application form.

A Travelcard is valid for use within zones 1-6 on:
The London Underground
The London Overground
National Rail (overground trains)
The Docklands Light Railway (DLR)
Travelcard holders also receive a 33% discount on London river services.
The price of a Travelcard depends on the zones you purchase.
A Daily Travelcard
These are paper tickets allowing unlimited travel for one day. An Oyster card with ‘pay as you go’ is usually cheaper than a Daily Travelcard as there is a ‘pay as you go’ maximum daily charge. This upper amount is known as a ‘cap’.

A weekly & monthly Travelcard
A weekly or monthly Travelcard is not sold as a paper ticket – it has to be loaded onto an Oyster card. It allows unlimited travel for the period purchased. The weekly Travelcard is valid for seven consecutive days.
Buses – you can’t use cash!
Cash is not accepted on any London buses. You can pay your fare with:
an Oyster Card loaded with a weekly or monthly bus pass
an Oyster Card loaded with a daily, weekly or monthly Travelcard
an Oyster Card using ‘pay as you go’ credit
a Visitor Oyster Card using ‘pay as you go’ credit
